Nestled in the lap of the Garhwal Himalayas, Chopta Valley sits at an elevation of 2,680 meters, surrounded by dense oak, deodar, and rhododendr on forests. A paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers, this region boasts a rich floral ecosystem with vibrant flowering plants carpeting the valley.

The Chandrashila Summit Trek is one of the most breathtaking treks in Uttarakhand, offering mesmerizing views of the Himalayas. The trail winds through lush meadows and rugged mountain paths, leading to the Chandrashila peak, where trekkers are rewarded with panoramic views of snow-capped Himalayan giants.

The journey begins from Chopta, ascending towards Tungnath, home to the highest Shiva temple in the world. From there, an additional hour’s climb leads to the Chandrashila Summit, providing a 360-degree view of the Himalayan range, with peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedarnath, Chaukhamba, and Bandarpunch standing majestically against the sky.

  • Summer (April – June): Pleasant weather with clear views of the Himalayas. Carry light woolens
    for early mornings and evenings.
  • Monsoon (July – September): The valley turns lush green, but trekking is challenging due to landslides and slippery trails. Carry rain gear if trekking during this season.
  • Winter (October – March): Chopta transforms into a snowy wonderland, making the trek more challenging but incredibly rewarding. Heavy woolens are a must.

Chopta is a scenic village located 36 km from Gopeshwar, 254 km from Rishikesh, and
approximately 450 km from Delhi. From Chopta, a 3 km trek leads to Tungnath, followed by
a 1 km steep climb to Chandrashila Peak.
